AIDS TO NAVIGATION
Buoys marking a narrow or dredged channel are normally
established on the edge of the channel. Light structures
established to mark the main channel may be located in
shoal water some distance back of the channel edge.
INDEX

CABLES
For the mariners safety, all submarine and overhead cables
are assumed to conduct electric power at high voltages and
contact with or proximity to these poses an extreme danger.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution when passing under
all overhead cables and to avoid anchoring or conducting
seabed operations in the vicinity of submarine cables.
However if anchors become hooked onto a cable care must be
taken not to sever the cable. Cables installed since the date
of publication of this cell may not be charted. Sufficient
clearance must be allowed under all overhead cables. Actual
clearances may differ from charted values due to changes in
atmospheric conditions, ice buildup and/or water levels. For
additional information, consult Notice to Mariners No. 16 of
each year and the appropriate volume of CHS Sailing Directions.
INDEX

MANUAL FOG SIGNALS
Mariners requiring horn to be turned on can activate it by
clicking radio mike five times within 5 seconds on channel
19VHF (156.95MHz). Horn can be activated with 1 watt power
at 3 NM range. Horn will stay activated for 30 minutes and
can be reactivated as required.
INDEX

RADAR REFLECTORS
Most of the major lighted buoys are equipped with radar
reflectors. Individual radar reflectors have not been charted.

ST. LAWRENCE SEAWAY

and regulations governing the transit of vessels in the

Lake Erie, refer to the Seaway Handbook of which a current copy
must be carried on board all vessels transiting the Seaway. A
copy of the Handbook may be obtained from the Information Office,
St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, Cornwall.
