CABLES The symbols for submarine and overhead cables do not differentiate between cables conducting electric power, often at high voltages, and other types of utility cables.  Mariners are advised to exercise caution when passing under all overhead cables and to avoid anchoring or conducting seabed operations in the vicinity of submarine cables.  The clearance of an overhead cable may differ from its charted value due to changes in atmospheric conditions, water levels and other factors.  For additional information, consult Notice to Mariners No. 16 in the Notices to Mariners, Annual Edition and the appropriate volume of CHS Sailing Directions.

TIDAL CURRENTS Approximate directions and rates of the tidal currents at the lettered positions are given in the table and are referred to High Water at Saint John NB.  Actual current speed and direction may vary considerably with those given due to the complexity of the tides and local atmospheric disturbances.  At other locations, current arrows are used to indicate the approximate directions and rates at flood and ebb tide.  In all cases, the directions and rates are for mean tides only.

CAUTION In Canadian water and fishing zones, provided that a Vessel engaged in fishing does not impede the passage of Any vessel transiting a traffic lane, it may fish in any direction in or near a Traffic Separation Scheme. All vessel must comply with the Collision Regulations. See Canadian Notice to Mariners No. 10 of each year.

WARNING The area covered by this chart is subject to tidal currents up to 5.5 knots.

WARNING Recent bathymetric surveys show the presence of shallower depths compared to what is presently charted. The shallower depths considered the most hazardous to navigation and within or near main shipping channels will be published in Notices to Mariners (WWW.NOTMAR.CA). Mariners are advised to exercise extreme caution, specifically when they navigate outside of the marked navigation channels.
